Welcome to NSCAD University’s Office of Academic Affairs and Research website. We are a dynamic, vital, and engaged community of artists, designers, and scholars working on the cutting edge of tomorrow's global art scene. Indeed, the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design counts amongst the world’s most important art and design schools.
Our office is charged with leadership and oversight responsibilities for all NSCAD academic and research enterprises. The portfolio of responsibilities within this office includes those of Deans and Directors of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies, Recruitment, Student Services, Extended Studies, Research, and the Registrar. Beyond this, we maintain a vast array of world-class support facilities, including libraries, visual archives, and workshops specializing in digital visualization, painting, sculpture, jewellery, textiles, ceramics, and photography, and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design Press.
We value individual expression, discovery, honesty, passion, learning, and ethical practice. We offer a powerful student-centred, outcomes-oriented curriculum array that aims to prepare our students to be innovative, artistically savvy, technically proficient, theoretically sophisticated, and experientially prepared to successfully engage the complex world that awaits them upon graduation. Our graduates are respectful of their engagement in community, and smart about political, social, and cultural potential.
NSCAD exists within a state of constant improvement, continuously adjusting to maintain excellence as we negotiate an ever changing and receding horizon of expectations. The keys to our success are NSCAD’s superior faculty, staff, and our drive to explore and deploy new notions of visual literacy, design thinking, craft, fine arts, film, and emergent transmedia forms. Through experimentation and scholarship we create new representational practices and inform the emergence of new research trajectories, all of which positively impact the social text of Nova Scotia, Canada and the world.
Thank you for visiting this website, and allowing us to share with you our accomplishments and aspirations. We hope you will be as excited as we are regarding our progress, programmes, faculty, staff and facilities. Please do consider joining our exciting enterprise.
