Daniel Hutchinson, MFA ’08, wins prestigious residency
April 5, 2011

Daniel Hutchinson, MFA '08, was recently named winner of the coveted 2011 Brucebo Summer Residency Scholarship Award.

Since 1972, the Brucebo Foundation of Gotland, Sweden has offered a fine art residency scholarship to talented, emerging Canadian artists aged 40 or younger, providing an inspiring study and work stay in northern Europe on the island of Gotland located in the Baltic Sea. The “Brucebo” funds a three months’ working residency at the Brucebo studio cottage in the fishing village of Skälsö, seven kilometers north of the Hanseatic and medieval city of Visby, a famous UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The scholarship covers transportation expenses, the use of the studio cottage, a monthly food stipend plus an equipment grant. Upon leaving the island, Daniel will be invited to deposit two of his works with the Canadian Collection at the Gotland Fine Art Museum. Over the years, this museum has built up one of the finest collections of contemporary Canadian Fine Art outside Canada.

Congratulations, Daniel!
