Retrospective: Work by Alexandra McCurdy (BFA 1980) is now on tour. The Fabric of Clay, a retrospective exhibition, is on display to Oct. 20 at the Burlington Art Centre, 1333 Lakeshore Rd., Burlington, Ont. It will travel to the Saint Mary’s Art Gallery in May 2012 and to the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in October 2012. Curator Gloria Hickey says of the exhibition: “This exhibition traces the evolution of Alexandra McCurdy's career from 1978 to 2011. Her work in ceramics consistently reflects two major influences that have shaped Canadian art –namely, formalist abstract aesthetics and feminism. These influences are seen in her characteristic use of colour and pattern on her surfaces and in the celebratory reference to the domestic textile arts or women's work.”
