An enthusiastic group of 50 NSCAD alumni welcomed President David B. Smith and Linda Hutchison, Director of University Relations, Alumni and Development, to New York City on March 26. This first reception for NYC-based grads with President Smith, held at the cozy Tipsy Parson restaurant in the city’s Chelsea neighbourhood, was graciously hosted by Board of Governor’s member Gillian McCain.
Speaking to the gathering, President Smith talked about NSCAD’s long and vital relationship with New York City. “Reconnecting with you is key to our institution’s success because all of you helped build NSCAD. Your experiences, what you learned, what you have gone on to learn and do helps to root what NSCAD does today. You are the NSCAD community, the NSCAD family.”
NSCAD student Lucy Poskitt, the inaugural recipient of the New York Studio Program scholarship, expressed her gratitude for this unique four-month internship, which will allow her to collaborate with and be mentored by NYC-area artists. This talented third-year interdisciplinary student previously received the Glenn Rodgerson Memorial Bursary and the Robert Pope Foundation Undergraduate Award.
Also joining New York City alumni for the event were special guests AA Bronson, C.M., DFA’07 and NSCAD Press author Martha Rosler.Credit: Justine Jablonska
