N.S. Art Bank invests in NSCAD alum
March 22, 2012

NSCAD alumni are well represented in the latest acquisitions made by the Nova Scotia Art Bank. More than 34 works were selected by an independent jury for purchase by the Nova Scotia Art Bank.

Among them are four emerging artists—Arianne Pollet-Brannen (BFA 2009), Christopher Foster (BFA 2008), Kate Walchuk (BFA 2011) and Nathan Patterson (BFA 2005)—whose work is shown at NSCAD’s Seeds Gallery.

“Working with the artists in the NSCAD community, it is my hope that this will be the first of many purchases Art Bank will be making through Seeds Gallery,” says Natalie Boterman (BFA 2011), manager of Seeds Gallery.

Other artists whose work was purchased include: Daniel Joyce (BFA 2007); Ivan Murphy (ANSCAD 1990, BDES 1992); Janice Leonard (BFA 1981), Katie Belcher (BFA 2007), Lorraine Field (BFA 1997, MFA 2003), Marilyn McAvoy (BFA 1985, MFA 1997), Mary Jane Lundy (BFA 2003), Melissa Townsend (BFA 2005), Sara MacCulloch (BFA 1992), Susan Sweet (BFA 1990) and Valeri Salez (BFA 1992). Three pieces each by Melanie Colosimo, exhibitions coordinator for the Anna Leonowens Gallery, and NSCAD Professor Emeritus Garry Neill Kennedy were also purchased.

Established in 1975, the Nova Scotia Art Bank purchase program has supported the careers of local artists for more than 35 years. Today, the collection consists of almost 1,800 pieces of art, many of which are displayed in government offices throughout the province.
