Be an artist for a day – or a lifetime.
Artist for a Day, a celebration of the artist in all of us, takes place Saturday, May 11, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at NSCAD’s Port Campus. Explore your creative side. Paint, print, draw and sketch your way through the many activities at Artist for a Day.
But perhaps you want to be an artist, art historian, craftsperson or a designer for more than one day. NSCAD’s Admissions staff will be available at Artist for a Day from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to look at portfolios, offer feedback and discuss the application process. Prospective students can also tour the Port Campus and meet professors and current students.
There is still time to get your application in for fall semester: June 1st is the deadline for September entry.
Students can register for the portfolio session at https://my.nscad.ca/events/index.do under upcoming events. Applying to a visual arts university is different than applying to other universities because students have to submit a portfolio of their creative work.
“If you’ve always thought about art school but haven’t made the step of applying, we’re available to talk,” says Terry Bailey, Director of Admissions and Enrolment Services at NSCAD University. “One of the challenges of applying to art school is the portfolio and we realize that can be intimidating. So we’re here to help with that and really show you what NSCAD can offer.”
NSCAD has an eclectic student body: comprising of students right out of high school or transferring from other insititutions, at midlife eager for a career change and at retirement age, ready to follow their passion. NSCAD draws students from across Canada and throughout the world.
NSCAD’s Artist for a Day coincides with I Love Local Halifax’s Open City event. The city is sure to be buzzing!
