New awards for new students
October 5, 2012

In the Fall of 2013, five new undergraduate (Foundation) students will receive the Professor David B. Smith Creative Excellence Awards.

The awards will be given to five students each year based on financial need and academic achievement. Covering full tuition, the awards will be renewable through all four years of education provided the recipient’s grade point average is maintained. By 2016, there will be 20 students attending NSCAD—and each year afterwards—who will benefit.

To be considered for these awards, application for admission to NSCAD must be made by March 1st, 2013.

The awards have been created thanks to two generous donations totaling $3.4 million from anonymous donors.

At $2.4 million, one of the gifts represents the largest ever received in the university’s 125-year history. The second gift totals $1 million.

Most of the money—$3 million—goes to the creation of the bursary endowment fund, while the remaining $400,000 will be dedicated to assist with NSCAD’s recruitment efforts.
