A great first impression

NSCAD University is delighted to welcome new students to its Foundation and graduate programs this fall, including 15 students who have earned the university’s top entrance scholarships.

This September, the university is featuring the work of these award-winning students in an exhibition coinciding with the beginning of the fall term. First Impressions runs until September 30 at the Port Loggia Gallery at NSCAD’s Port Campus, 1107 Marginal Rd., Halifax.

First Impressions will introduce gallery-goers to the work of:

  • Jessica Aurini, recipient of the Alexander J. McDonald Memorial Award, from Halifax, N.S.;
  • Meaghan Bissett, recipient of the renewable Harrison McCain Scholarship in Memory of Marion McCain, from Ottawa, Ont.;
  • Curtis Botham, recipient of the Diversity Entrance Award, from Bedford, N.S.;
  • Jacob Calcafuoco, recipient of the renewable Harrison McCain Scholarship in Memory of Marion McCain, from Kingston, Ont.;
  • Annie Onyi Cheung, recipient of the renewable Harrison McCain Scholarship in Memory of Marion McCain, an emerging performance, video and installation artist originally from Hong Kong;
  • Helah Cooper, recipient of the BMO Entrance Scholarship and the 14th Palette Art Group Scholarship, from Toronto, Ont.;
  • Kristy Depper, recipient of the Roloff Beny Graduate Photography Scholarship, from Toronto, Ont.;
  • Lauren Dial, recipient of the renewable Harrison McCain Scholarship in Memory of Marion McCain, from Bridgewater, N.S.;
  • Conor Fagan, recipient of the Robert Pope Foundation Graduate Scholarship, from Baltimore, Maryland;
  • Garrett Gilbart, recipient of the FUNSCAD Entrance Scholarship, from Peterborough, Ont.;
  • Elizabeth Girard, recipient of the Dartmouth Visual Arts Society Entrance Scholarship, from Cole Harbour, N.S.;
  • Ceilidh and Rebecca Higgins from Musquodoboit Harbour, N.S. Rebecca is the recipient of the FUNSCAD Entrance Scholarship and Ceilidh receives the renewable Nova Scotia Power Scholarship.;
  • Ellie Jackson, recipient of the Diversity Entrance Award, from Cambridge, Mass.

Through the generosity of its donors, the university is able to offer scholarships ranging from $8,000 to $1,000 a year. Such support allows NSCAD to attract top young talent from high schools in Canada and the United States.
