Dylan's gift
March 16, 2012

Eight-year-old artist Dylan Moore visited President David B. Smith on Thursday with a gift: more than $200 in cash, cheques and online donations for the NSCAD Now Annual Fund. As he invited guests to his birthday party, Dylan suggested they could donate to NSCAD instead of bringing gifts for him.

“It’s a school you want to go to someday and you want to keep it going—right?” said Dylan’s older brother Griffen, 10, as Dylan immediately set to work with paper and pencil creating a new piece of art for President Smith’s office.

The boys’ dad Craig Moore (BFA 2000), a member of the NSCAD Alumni Association, admits that he was initially surprised by Dylan’s idea: “I guess they were tuned in to the discussion around the house.”

Of course, he’s proud too. “He’s a very artistic kid and a lot of thought went into this,” he says. “It means a lot to all of us to have NSCAD stay an independent art institution.”
