The NSCAD Alumni Association met recently for its Annual General Meeting—looking back on a jam-packed year and ahead to events to come.
Over the past year, NSCAD alumni have taken an active role in university life by participating in and spearheading events such as the airport welcome for new students, Artist for a Day, Dine by Design East, ROAR: An Art Auction for NSCAD, and Graduation. Major initiatives for the association were creating a unique welcome for new NSCAD graduates at the 2015 Graduation Ceremony by presenting them with a NSCAD purple I AM NSCAD scarf and by hosting the Graduation Dance.
This fall, the alumni association has a number of major projects on its plate: organizing I AM NSCAD, the NSCAD Alumni Exhibition (September 29 to October 8); and participating in Sculpture Nova Scotia’s inaugural sculpture symposium (September 19 to October 17) and Dine by Design East, the third annual four-day fundraiser in support of design education at NSCAD (October 1 to 4).
In new business, Melanie Colosimo, director of the Anna Leonowens Gallery, raised the idea of an artist-in-residency program for local alumni at the gallery. Melanie is particularly interested in seeing alumni artists activate the courtyard in front of the gallery.
In other news, a couple of new faces have joined the alumni association board: Danielle Autran (BDes 2002) and Anna Fiander (BFA 2015). The board executive includes: Peter Wünsch (BFA 1989) President; Annalise Prodor (BFA 2011) Vice-President; Kelly Markovich (MFA 2011) Secretary; and Siobhan Cleary (BDes 1993) Treasurer. Alumni representatives on the NSCAD Board of Directors are: Julia Dexter (BDes 2003) and Mary Elizabeth Luka (BFA 1997). Members at large are: Cameron Jantzen (BDes 2003), Craig Moore (BFA 2000), and Suzanne Saul (BFA 1987). Christopher McFarlane (BFA 1994) is immediate past president, and NSCAD President Dianne Taylor-Gearing and SUNSCAD President Gabriel Soligo are ex-officio members.
The NSCAD Alumni Association's AGM took place July 16, 2015 in the drawing studio on the Fountain Campus.
