New NSCAD student award explores link between art and health
February 23, 2010

To mark its 10th anniversary, the Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation (NSHRF) has established a one-time competition, exclusively for NSCAD University students.

Using as its theme “The synergy of art and health for mind and body,” the NSHRF Art Award competition is open any full-time graduate or undergraduate student in sculpture, design, drawing, painting, jewellery, metalsmithing, textiles, photography, printmaking and ceramics. All works must be new and suitable for indoor display in a public office.

The NSHRF is generously supporting the juried competition – designed to develop a fuller understanding of the integration of art and science -- with $10,000 in prizes:

•    First place -     $5,000
•    Second place - $3,000
•    Third place -    $2,000

Winners of the NSHRF Art Award competition will be announced at the NSCAD University 2010 Graduation and Commencement Ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, May 15.

Deadline for applications is 4 p.m., Tuesday, March 30. Submissions must include a completed application form and proposal template, a resume, names of two faculty references and no more than four digital images or scanned sketches of the work.
