NSCAD student films to air at Montreal and Toronto film festivals
Three 2009-10 student thesis films: Blush Response by Ian Burns, Age of Consent by Sarah Frazier, BFA '10, and Changeover by Liam Higgins, BFA '10, were recently accepted into the 41st Canadian Student Film Festival, part of the Montreal World Film Festival.
Current student Dennis Envoldsen’s film Angel will also air at the Montreal festival, while another 2009-10 thesis film, Buckshot by Gabriel Jablanskczy, BFA '10, was accepted into the highly competitive Toronto International Film Festival.
All four thesis films were produced with assistance from Film Nova Scotia’s Partnerships in Training Program. The initiative, now in its fourth year, provides $2500 in support for each of the thesis films produced by senior NSCAD film students. NSCAD is delighted that the provincial crown corporation responsible for growing and promoting the province’s film industry has renewed its commitment to Partnerships in Training for 2010-2011.
Last year, BFA’09 Heather Young’s thesis film Dog Girl - also produced with a Partnership in Training grant - won the prestigious “Norman McLaren Award” as overall winner of the 40th Canadian Student Film Festival in Montreal.
