The union that represents bus operators, ferry crews, fleet mechanics and other Metro Transit employees will be in a legal strike position as of Thursday, February 2. Talks are still going on, but a work stoppage would put the brakes on bus and ferry service in HRM. The loss of this vital service may make it difficult for students, faculty and staff to get to campus.
To that end, the administration is encouraging students, faculty and staff to help each other find a way to campus. Do you have an extra spot or two in your vehicle? Can you share driving/parking with a NSCAD neighbor headed in the same direction? Anyone is welcome to post on NSCAD’s Facebook page if they are offering a ride or need a ride.
HRM also offers a ride-matching system that allows commuters to find carpool partners. The service matches people based on where they live and where they’re going to. Check out HRM Smart Trip.
We remain hopeful that HRM and its employees can come to an agreement, but if a work stoppage should occur we are confident that NSCAD will pull together to make the best of an inconvenient situation.
To get the latest information on the dispute, students, faculty and staff should monitor the Metro Transit website.
