Extended Studies offers new programs for Winter 2011 semester
Whether you’re new to art or returning to art after an absence, explore your creative potential this winter with courses from the School of Extended Studies. Registration for all winter (January to April 2011) courses and programs begins Monday, December 6.

This coming semester, adult learners can choose from a number of new courses, including:

  • Introductory to Printed Matter
  • Introductory Origami
  • Japanese Calligraphy
  • Rapid Pattern Development
  • You and Your Sewing Machine
  • Intermediate Drawing: Drawing & Language, and
  • Survival in the Arts.
Three sessions of Portfolio Preparation, a course designed to improve the overall quality of portfolios required for application to first-year credit visual arts study, are also being offered. Two eight-week sessions are being offered in Halifax and Sydney, along with a one-week intensive during the HRM Spring Break.

The School of Extended Studies is also offering a unique professional development program designed to train leaders to develop, manage and facilitate community arts projects. The new Certificate in Community-Based Art Practice will meet the needs of artists interested in applying their talents and skills to working in the community, along with educators and individuals working with community-based organizations who want to incorporate the arts into their programming.
