The noncredit Certificate in Photography provides entry-level and experienced photographers with an opportunity to focus on solid darkroom techniques as well as fundamental and more advanced skills necessary to the production of fine art photographic images. Through demonstrations, group critiques, and projects, students are encouraged to experiment, problem-solve and develop a personal style.
The Certificate in Photography is awarded to students who:
- successfully complete the certificate program within three years of starting the first course;
- complete three eligible, noncredit, thirty-hour courses (courses vary each semester);
- attend every class; and,
- satisfactorily complete all in-class and homework assignments.
Available every term, the 30-hour Black and White Photography course is required for all candidates and is the prerequisite for the Colour and Advanced Photography courses. Introduction to Digital Imaging or Advanced Digital Imaging may be chosen as one of the course options. Please see the non-credit course list for current available courses.
The certificate program is open to anyone 16 years or older. Enrollment is limited. Students who are currently taking an eligible certificate course have first option for registration the next term. All other registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Courses may be taken whether or not one intends to receive a certificate. A letter of sponsorship from a granting institution is acceptable at time of registration in lieu of payment.
