The School of Extended Studies is partnering with the Dawson Printshop to offer courses unique to NSCAD University. Home to thousands of wood and metal type the Dawson Printshop is an exceptional place to practice the art of letterpress printing.
A small
amount of high-quality art and hobby letterpress printing remains and
since the 1990’s has undergone a resurgence in its use for wedding
invitations and personalized gift cards. The course will cover the
basics of design and layout as well as how to properly use the Dawson
Press in the production of one-of-a-kind cards (great for the holidays!)
or printed matter for books. Class Limit is 15. Eligible for T2202

This course is for anyone interested
in exploring materials, tools and processes used to create unique and
sturdy hard-cover journals. Personal journals make wonderful gifts
especially when hand made. Students will make two different styles of
journals, focusing on traditional hard-cover binding methods,
incorporating personal documents, design variations and surface
decoration. One session will be devoted to printing title pages using
the type faces and equipment in NSCAD’s Dawson Printshop. Bring
scissors, ruler, and pencil to the first class. Class Limit is 12.
