Open Studio for Experienced PrintmakersRegistrants must demonstrate competence to work independently in the print studios and obtain written authorization from the Printmaking Technician prior to registration.

Open Studio for Experts in Sewing
Machine-related supplies such as needles are provided. Registrants provide all other supplies and tools. Registrants are required to have completed two fashion-related credit courses or equivalent experience and be able to demonstrate knowledge and safety procedures of industrial sewing machines. Written authorization of Textile faculty and Fashion technician is required prior to registration. For safety, closed toe/heeled shoes are worn in the Fashion Studio.

Jacquard Loom Open StudioTuition includes 20/2 cotton warp yarn to equal up to one metre of woven cloth, limited technical support and access to JacqCAD Master software. Warp thread will be either black or white, depending on what is pre-set on NSCAD’s TC-1 jacquard loom. Users provide weft yarn. Registrants are required to have completed one credit course using JacqCAD Master or NSCAD’s non-credit “Introduction to Computerized Jacquard Loom”, and obtain written authorization of Textile faculty.

Dawson Open Studio for Experienced Binders
Tuition includes use of bindery equipment, tools and cutter. Registrants provide all other supplies. Registrants must demonstrate competence to work independently and safely with bindery equipment and obtain written authorization from the Visual Communications Services Technician prior to registration. For safety, closed toed/heeled shoes must be worn.

Dawson Open Studio for Experienced Letterpress PrintersTuition includes use of letterpress printing equipment and a wide-variety of metal and wood type. Black ink is provided. Registrants provide all other supplies. Registrants must demonstrate competence to work independently including setting and sorting type and must be able to demonstrate knowledge of operation and safety procedures for presses. Written authorization of Visual Communications Services Technician is required. For safety, closed toed/heeled shoes must be worn. Digital equipment is not available.

Open Studio for Experienced Photographers
NSCAD alumni and other experienced individuals who have met the requirements are assigned access to the film & digital photography production facility, based on availability. Registrants are required to have completed photography-related courses or equivalent experience and obtain written authorization of Photography faculty and the Director prior to registration.

Open Studio for Experienced Fabric Printers and DyersFee covers use of some chemicals (list to be provided by Textiles). Registrants provide all supplies including dyes and fabric. Registrants must obtain written authorization of Textile faculty and technician. NOTE: Inquire with textile technician regarding advance sign-up for tables.

Open Studio for Experienced WeaversFee covers use of 4-harness floor loom, shuttle and access to warping equipment. Registrants provide all supplies. Registrants are required to have completed two credit weaving courses or equivalent and obtain written authorization of Textile faculty and technician prior to registration.

Open Studio for Experienced Painters
Qualifying NSCAD alumni working on an exhibition and students who are not currently registered are assigned a studio area based on availability. Registrants are required to have completed three painting-related credit courses or equivalent experience and obtain written authorization of Painting faculty and technician prior to registration.

 
Site: Granville Campus, 4th floor studios, 5163 Duke Street
Date / Time: Summer Only, daily, 7:00am-11:00pm access, dates and space assigned by Fine and Media Arts Administrative Assistant ( 902-494-8147)
Tuition: $300 for 6 weeks (HST included)

Open Studio for Experienced Stone CarversFee includes access to sculpture equipment and tools assigned in consultation with the technician. Registrants provide all other supplies. Registrants must demonstrate competence to work independently in the sculpture studios and obtain written authorization from a Sculpture faculty member and technician prior to registration.

Date / Time: Dates and hours established in consultation with Sculpture Faculty and Technician
Tuition: $300 for 6 weeks (HST included)
$50 for the week (HST included)

Foundry Open StudioFee includes limited technical support and access to foundry equipment and tools assigned in consultation with the technician. Registrants provide all other supplies. (Bronze and aluminum may be purchased from technician. Registrants are required to have completed one foundry-related credit course or equivalent, demonstrate competence to work independently in the foundry studio and provide the technician with a written project proposal. Written authorization from a faculty member and Sculpture technician is required prior to registration. NOTE: This open studio is intended for ceramic shell molding and casting in bronze or aluminum. No finishing services are provided.
