Introductory Jewellery MakingStudents are introduced to fundamental metalworking techniques and instructed on usage of specialized tools through detailed demonstrations and studio work in NSCAD’s fully equipped jewellery studio.  Projects include a ring, chain making, and hollow construction.  Tuition includes supplies for class projects and use of jewellery tools.  This course accommodates both introductory and more advanced levels of study.  Bring notebook, pen, dust mask and particle respirator to first class. MATERIALS INCLUDED.
  Class Limit is 12.

NOTE: Please bring safety glasses. The glasses for this class need to meet the following safety requirements and are available at stores such as Canadian Tire and HomeDepot:
ANSI Z87.1” and/or “CSA Z94.3” High Impact Standards or CSA Z94.3-M**” and/or “ANSI 787.1-2003” Approved

Advanced Jewellery Techniques:  Enamelling
Students will learn the fundamentals of enameling and designing methods for integrating enameled pieces into jewellery. Unleaded opaque and transparent enamels will be used. Colour testing, firing stages, sifting, silver foil, millefiori, basse-taille, die forming, cold connections, and setting techniques will be covered. Tuition includes some supplies and use of jewellery tools.  Bring notebook, pen, dust masks and particle respirator to first class. Prerequisite: Introduction to Jewellery Making or equivalent.  MATERIALS INCLUDED.
  Class Limit is 12.

125 SUMMER INSTITUTE

The School of Extended Studies is kicking off NSCAD’s inaugural Summer Institute as part of NSCAD’s 125th year celebration. We are hosting three weeks of workshops designed to encourage new artists and inspire the professional.
Tuition includes: A welcome reception Monday evening, morning coffee breaks and a closing lunch on Friday.
-  Group excursions will be available each week at an additional cost.
-  Registration closes two weeks prior to the start of each course.

Learn how to cast molten metal in NSCAD’s jewellery studio and turn your silver scraps, or found objects into exciting pieces of jewellery. Students will learn the techniques of cuttlefish, sand, and salt casting. No prerequisite. MATERIALS INCLUDED.
