Open Studio provides the public with the opportunity to independently explore their body of work using NSCAD University studios. Registrants have access to the studio and equipment during times established in consultation with faculty and/or technicians.

Each Open Studio has different requirements and schedules that are established by the studio faculty and technicians. Instruction and technical support are not provided in Open Studios, unless stated in the description. Participants must be able to work on their own, provide their own supplies and demonstrate knowledge of studio health and safety procedures.  Open Studios require an Authorization Form that is signed by a Division Chair and/or technician. Online registration through WebAdvisor is not available for courses requiring signed authorization.

Dawson Printshop Open Studio
Registrants must demonstrate competence to work independently and safely in the Dawson Printshop and require an Authorization Form that is signed by the Visual Communications Services Technician prior to registration. For safety, closed toed/heeled shoes must be worn. Black ink is provided as part of the registration fee. Access to digital equipment is not included. Online registration through WebAdvisor is not available.

Photography Open Studio
NSCAD alumni and other experienced individuals who have met the requirements are assigned access to the black and white production facility and the digital studio facilities, based on availability. Registrants are required to have completed the relevant photography-related courses or equivalent and complete an Authorization Form that is signed by the Photography Director prior to registration. Online registration through WebAdvisor is not available.

Printmaking Open Studio
Registrants must demonstrate competence to work independently and safely in the printmaking studios and require an Authorization Form that is signed by the Printmaking Technician and/or Division Chair prior to registration. Online registration through WebAdvisor is not available.

Painting
Registrants must demonstrate competence to work independently and safely in the studios and require an Authorization Form that is signed by the Painting Technician and/or Division Chair prior to registration. Online registration through WebAdvisor is not available.

Textiles Open Studio
NSCAD alumni and other experienced individuals who can demonstrate competence to work independently and safely in the textiles studios are assigned access to the dye and print studio and/or the weaving studio, based on availability. Individuals require an Authorization Form signed by the Textiles Technician and/or Textiles Faculty prior to registration.

Life Drawing Open Studio
Participants have access to a studio situation with a live nude model.  Instruction is not provided. This Open Studio is particularly suitable for NSCAD Alumni and Extended Studies students with experience. NSCAD students enrolled in credit courses should contact Fine and Media Arts (494-8147) for further information.
Extended Studies registration is limited to 13.
