This course is an interactive and experiential introduction to Art Therapy. Sessions are structured to have a lecture element followed by an experiential component, as well as an opportunity for discussion. This course presents the major influences on the birth of Art Therapy as a field, as well as current connections to Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Neuroscience. Students will have the chance to explore the Expressive Therapies Continuum, a system for organizing and understanding the different modalities of the human brain and body that are involved in art therapy: sensation, kinaesthetics, perception, emotion, cognition and symbolism. Class limit is 17.
This course qualifies as part of the Certificate in Arts Administration.
