This is a course for emerging artists who are, or intend on, pursuing fine art as a career; professionals affiliated with the arts such as civil service in the cultural sector, teachers, etc.; and the simply curious. Professional items such as grants, residencies, proposal writing, public and private gallery mandates, and partnerships with different sectors such as education will be examined; as well as issues concerning daily studio practice. Using basic business planning, the course will outline how to anticipate costs and find formulas for future projects. This course will also cover funding schemas for artist run centres, Government funded centres, and basic accounting skills to maintain records of income and expenses. Students will develop their communication financial management skills thought proposal writing and verbal presentations.
This course qualifies as part of the Certificate in Arts Administration. Class limit is 15.
