BFA 2011

| | Jason Skinner graduated from NSCAD in the spring of 2011 with a BFA, Fine Arts Major in painting. The primary focus of his work engages the relationships between people, community and nation. Inspired by his training in contemporary illustration, the mixed-media approach to his work is often heavily based in research, incorporating textual elements as well as design. When the weather is right Jason can be found engaging public walkways and audiences creating murals in chalk. During the coming year in the Residency Program Jason is looking forward to creating a portfolio of paintings inspired by Lunenburg’s annual festivals, rich history, friendly population and unique culture. |

| Lynette de Montreuil grew up in British Columbia and now calls Halifax home. In Lunenburg, she is looking to become immersed in the community and create a rich dialogue. Lynette recently graduated from NSCAD University with an Interdisciplinary degree and her work focuses on photography, sculpture and natural dying. Cataloguing information, archiving and documenting the passage of time play an important role in Lynette’s art practice. Her work seeks to make a connection to history, heritage and collective consciousness. Over the course of the year in Lunenburg, she is hoping to identify the individual, as well as our place within the social whole, which is greater than the sum of its parts.

 | | Nadia Gemeinhardt graduated from NSCAD this year with her Bachelor of Fine Art Major in Ceramics after studying at the University of Victoria for four years where she focused on biology. Her ceramic work explores home and landscape and our own creation of personal space. During the year in Lunenburg Nadia wants to continue working in ceramics and examine role of gender and the division of practice in craft work. |

 | | Edmonton-native Annalise Prodor’s art practice is based in mixed media and curious compositions that challenge both her and her viewers. Annalise’s large-scale paintings are only the starting point for her new body of work. While in residence, she plans to experiment with video and projection in her painting practice. Annalise is inspired to create community workshops based in non-traditional media as means of exploring mixed media art practice. |
BFA 2011
 | | Krissi MacKenzie’s ceramic work focuses on beauty and function, consisting mainly of tableware ceramic design. Surface design is important to Krissi and over the next year she wants to further explore the idea of the traditional ideals of tableware, surface design and its contemporary role. Krissi is no stranger to Pictou County. She was born and raised on the outskirts of New Glasgow and is excited to be working from her “home base” with the community that nurtured her own talents. |

 | | Katherine Roux graduated from NSCAD in August with a BFA in Fine Arts (Painting with a minor in Art History). She creates watercolour adaptations of collaged images on large-scale canvases. Roux gathers her inspiration from the experience of absorbing the visual information that over-saturates our culture. In her paintings, she explores how this information seeps into her subconscious and re-emerges in the state just before sleep where it’s jumbled together and forced into fragmented, nonsensical narratives. As one of the New Glasgow artists-in- residence, Roux plans to continue these investigations and reach out to the community through her studio practice. Katie is excited about collaborating with her studio mates to build a strong residency program in New Glasgow.
