The NSCAD program, now in its fourth year, offers recent graduates the opportunity to develop their studio practice. As part of the Residency, they also work with elementary and secondary school students and offer workshops and lectures to the Lunenburg community. Their unique studio space, located in a former fire station at 40 Duke Street, is made available through generosity of the Town of Lunenburg.
BFA 2009

| | Jennifer Green, originally from Toronto, Ontario, first moved to Halifax in 2002 to attend NSCAD University. Before completing her Bachelor’s degree, Jennifer spent two years studying architecture at the University of Waterloo and a semester abroad at the Kyoto City University of Arts in Kyoto, Japan. Both experiences instilled in her an interest in traditional craft practices, in particular a passion for textiles. Jennifer’s work utilizes textile processes such as hand weaving, spinning and dyeing and recently she has used drawing to express the fine details of cloth. Through a sensitive approach to these age-old techniques, she strives to express the inherent beauty of her materials. During this residency Jennifer hopes to pursue her interest in flax spinning and weaving and to recall the history of these crafts in this particular area of Nova Scotia. |

 | | Kat Frick Miller, a Brampton, Ontario native, started her BFA at York University in 2003. After a few years hiatus spent traveling Europe and living in Scotland she settled into Halifax, Nova Scotia to finish her degree at NSCAD University in Interdisciplinary Studies, with a Minor in Art History. Kat is a practicing painter and screen-printer, combining the two techniques in her artwork using pattern and juxtaposed imagery to explore national motifs and location in relation to personal identity. She also runs a screen-printing business, selling printed garments and accessories at local shops, galleries and art markets in Nova Scotia and Ontario.

BFA 2009
| | Katherine Thomas transferred from her hometown of Calgary, Alberta where she completed the first part of her degree at the Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD). She graduated from NSCAD University in 2009 earning a BFA with a major in ceramics and a minor in art history. These areas of study lead her work in a traditional research driven direction. As a craftsperson her work is focused on highly crafted art objects that are still functional. The tulipierre form has been the driving idea behind her most recent work, exploring the delicate balance that exists between functional craft and luxurious art installation and showcasing the self-indulgent and lavish nature of consumer culture today. Katherine has exhibited her work in several different galleries including, most recently, her solo graduate exhibition at the Anna Leonowens Gallery in Halifax, NS. |
