Alex Livingston is a Professor in painting. Born in Kingston, Ontario he received a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and an MA Fine Arts from the Chelsea College of Art and Design in London, England.
Susan Gibson writes in her catalogue essay, Alex Livingston: Painting 1985-2005:
“Alex Livingston’s work is rife with dualities, oppositions and contrasts - of representation and abstraction, of the natural and human-made worlds, of the microcosm and the macrocosm, of all-over patternings and the single iconic image, of land and water, of the tiny and the titanic, of multiple small canvases and singular large ones. It is this tension between extremes, rhythmically cycling through Livingston’s work over the years, that indicates the scope and liveliness of his ongoing immersion in the conundrum of contemporary painting.”
Alex Livingston has exhibited his paintings in numerous solo and group exhibitions in public and commercial galleries across Canada. He has also participated in exhibitions in England, South Korea and the United States. Livingston’s work is in private, corporate and public collections.
