Born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Mathew Reichertz attended Concordia University where he received a BFA in 1993. In 1997 he moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where, in 1999, he received an MFA from NSCAD University, formally the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.
He has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions across Canada, including Sir Wilfred Grenfell College Art Gallery, Corner Brooke (Newfoundland), Khyber Centre for the Arts Halifax (Nova Scotia), Ciparis/Lennox Gallery, Toronto (Ontario), Beaverbrook Art Gallery Fredericton (New Brunswick) and Galerie Action Art Actual, St. Jean Sur Richelieu (Quebec).
As part of the RBC Canadian Painting Competition national touring exhibition his work was exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, Toronto (Ontario), Saint Mary, University Art Gallery, Halifax (Nova Scotia), Bau-Xi Gallery, Vancouver (British Columbia) and Galerie Sussex Gallery, Ottawa (Ontario).
In 2001 a permanent, site-specific painting was installed in the Sobey Building of Saint Mary’s University, Halifax (Nova Scotia). In 2006 he was shortlisted for the Sobey Art Awards. He has received creation and presentation grants from the province of Nova Scotia and is included in a variety of institutional collections.
