Textiles studio
Courses

As a first-year student, you will choose two courses from a selection of five designed to provide you with fundamental skills in making things: Photography, Video, Wood and Metal, Computer and Movement Art. You will also take the seven-week module Introduction to Studio Practice. This course introduces you to a range of media, colour theory, principles of design, and questions of form and content. Following the Introduction to Studio Practice, you will select three from the following six Foundation studio modules: Constructed Forms, Design, Film, Intermedia, Modeled Forms and Paint & Print.

All Foundation students take two semesters of Drawing. First-year students also complete two liberal arts courses: Introduction to Visual Culture and Writing for the Arts.

A typical week in your life may include shooting a video one day, drawing from a live model the next, attending a lecture by a visiting artist, and learning to print on an etching press.  Class sizes at NSCAD are small with an excellent faculty-to-student ratio, and you will be working in peer groups with shared enthusiasms and interests.
