The Bachelor of Arts, Major in Art History offers students an opportunity to explore the theory, history and critical analysis of art, crafts, architecture, and design.
While the emphasis of the program is on Western art of the 19th and 20th centuries, there are opportunities to look at non-Western art and to engage in the critical discourse that surrounds the production of art. Students may complete the Foundation year or a year of social sciences and humanities coursework at another university for first year and then enrol in 2000 level studio and LAS courses as prerequisites for 3000 and 4000 level courses.
The Major in Art History requires the successful completion of 42 credits of art history courses as specified. Students who plan to pursue graduate work in art history are encouraged to take undergraduate language courses in French, Italian, or German, and to take 60 credits of Art History courses.
Entry to the Major in Art History ProgramThe Major in Art History Program is an open entry program. After successfully completing the first two years of study, students may declare their intention to major in art history. To declare a major, students must submit a declaration form, available from the Office of Student and Academic Services.
