With 125 years of NSCAD’s illustrious history to celebrate, it has been a busy year for NSCAD’s Alumni Association. It started with designing a 125 Anniversary logo, a website and organizing the many celebratory events which included the highly successful inaugural, Artist for a Day on the Halifax waterfront in May. The Artist for a Day event served to showcase a selection of NSCAD’s programs to an estimated 8000 people on a Saturday afternoon in conjunction with I Love Local’s “Open City” event. The activities didn’t end there, the Alumni Association also participated in organizing the 125th Anniversary Weekend in September, which focused on celebrating our founder, Anna Leonowens. The festivities included three exhibitions at the Anna Leonowens Gallery: Presence, historic views of NSCAD; Corrections by former NSCAD president Garry Neill Kennedy; and The King and I: Reprise, a group show and contemporary art bar. The weekend also featured a card stunt flash mob that created a supersized image of Anna Leonowens flipping to the 125 logo on Citadel Hill, and a fabulous outdoor concert on Granville Street, directed by alumna Jenn Grant, BFA '06 with Buck 65, Matt Mays, Ria Mae, Tanya Davis, Ghettosocks, Acres & Acres and hosted by CBC Radio’s Craig Norris. On June 27th, 2012 an election was held at the Association’s Annual General Meeting. Great appreciation was extended to Akshay Tyagi, BFA ’08 and Briony Carros, BFA ’98 for their commitment and service as they stepped down as Directors. The Alumni Executive members were reelected as follows: Peter Wuensch, BFA ’89, President; Suzanne Saul, BFA ’87, Vice President; Siobhan Cleary, BDes ’93, Treasurer; Craig Moore, BFA ’00, Secretary. Mary Elizabeth Luka, BFA’97; Cameron Jantzen, BDes ‘03, Jeff White, BDes ’96, will also continue as Directors, Gerard McNeil, BED ’98, was nominated and appointed as a Director. David Murphy, BFA ’01 and Julia Rivard, BDes ’04 continue to serve as the Alumni Association representatives on the NSCAD University Board of Governors. Julia also serves as Vice Chair of the NSCAD Board of Governors.
