Siobhan Cleary BDes '93
While Siobhan initially went to NSCAD to study painting and illustration, she eventually became captivated by graphic design.

Her blend of fine art training and a designer’s drive to communicate in meaningful ways shows in her work for clients such as the Atlantic Film Festival, Jost Vineyards and the Province of Nova Scotia. Vibrant imagery and carefully crafted typography combine to make clear and compelling work that gets the client’s message across.

Siobhan takes pride in the fact that her work doesn’t have a signature style; that her creativity does not thrive in a vacuum. “Good design puts the client’s needs first—the client’s message to their audience must be the star of the work, not the creative director’s ego.”

After starting Spectacle Design in 2001, Siobhan was one of the founders of Spectacle Communications Group in 2005. As Creative Director, she leads a team of multi-disciplinary design and marketing communicators in corporate branding, wayfinding and software development projects of all shapes and sizes.

Spectacle Group now has 6 full-time members, with skills ranging from web site and database creation to design, copywriting and brand development. The catalyst for the team (which includes two other NSCAD  alumni and a faculty member) is the shared belief in the application of a design-driven, problem-solving approach to communications challenges. An open studio filled with show-and-tell, laughter and some pretty bad jokes nourishes the creativity.
