NSCAD University’s Board of Governors wants to assure students and prospective students that NSCAD University will continue to be a vital and vibrant institution this year, next year and far into the future.
“Educating the best and brightest creative thinkers remains our passion and our number-one priority.” says Michael Donovan, the board’s chair.
Time to Act, the Howard Windsor Report, affirms the importance, high quality and uniqueness of a NSCAD education. NSCAD University thanks Mr. Windsor for his care and attention to what our students, faculty and alumni had to say during the months of consultation and appreciates his understanding that further time is necessary to continue to work on a plan for NSCAD’s sustainable future.
At its meeting on Thursday, December 8, the Board of Governors made a commitment to work collaboratively with the Department of Labour and Advanced Education and all stakeholders in defining NSCAD’s future. This means a renewed commitment to the autonomy and integrity of NSCAD’s unique programming, and a further exploration of partnerships and collaborations with other institutions.
“We have a lot of work ahead of us, but on the eve of our 125th anniversary, we are invigorated by the challenge, and we believe we can bring all of our creativity to bear in producing a sustainable plan that will ensure the vitality of the institution for the next 125 years,” says President David B. Smith.
“All of us at NSCAD believe the key to our success is our independence, and that financial sustainability is possible within an autonomous institution,” adds Mr. Donovan.
By March 31st, if not before, NSCAD fully expects to announce a plan that will ensure NSCAD's independence and continued contributions to the culture and creative economy of Nova Scotia in both the short and long term.
