The Flatmen
Alexander Irving, Artist – in – Residence
The Flatmen are paintings of figures that struggle with the second dimension. The artist states, “they are ambiguous figures that evoke a sense of pathos and humour in their attempts to emerge from their shallow ground and assert themselves in our space. They are tarrying figures displaying a suspension from activity and as such propose a disnarrative, entertaining the ambiguities inherent in painting.”
