Currently housing a collection of over 50,000 books and periodicals in the visual and media arts, craft, fashion, and design, the NSCAD University Library is the only Library in Atlantic Canada specializing in the fine arts and design fields.
The Library also incorporates a number of special collections for exhibition catalogues, artists’ books, printed matter, and rare books in specialized subject fields.
A major feature of the Library is the Visual Resources Collection which has over 140,000 slides, as well as 16mm films, DVDs, videos, CDs and audio tapes. Digital images are currently available through a number of licensed image databases.
As the premier art library collection in Atlantic Canada, the NSCAD University Library enjoys a rich and diverse history. Believed to have existed since the early, heady days of the College, the Library has developed from an eclectic collection of principals’ books to an academic library of national standing.
The Library is a partner in the Novanet group; a Nova Scotia university library consortium which facilitates the loaning of library materials between University and College libraries and provides a shared online catalogue for research and discovery.
The Library encourages members of the NSCAD community to use its space to display and share their works of art.
If interested in exhibiting in the Library, please fill out the form and submit it to a Full-Time staff member at the NSCAD Library.
Rear Projection is a text-based installation by collaborative artist duo Nicole Raufeisen and Ryan Witt. The architectural work can be accessed through a small peephole in the door to the NSCAD Univeristy Archives Collection on the Library's 3rd floor. © 2010
