Introduction to Black + White Film Photography

The course covers use of the camera, light meter, black and white film developing, contact printing, and enlarging.  Film and paper are not included and students can expect to spend approximately $150 on these materials. Tuition includes chemicals and 10 weeks darkroom access outside of class (up to 10 hour per week). Please bring a working 35mm camera to class and a roll of TRI-X 400 35mm film to the first class. Class limit is 12.

Tuition includes 10 weeks of dark room access outside of class (up to 10 hours per week) in the photography studio.

Introduction to Digital Photography

This introductory course requires no prior experience, but access to a DSLR Digital camera with manual exposure capability is necessary. The course covers digital workflow from shooting to photo storage, hardware management including camera care, basics of digital manipulation, and digital printing. Printing costs are not included and students can expect to spend approximately $150 on materials. Students should be familiar with the basic operations of their individual cameras, as individualized instruction is not provided. Class Limit is 12.

Tuition includes 10 weeks of access outside of class (up to 10 hours per week) in the photography/multi-media computer lab.

NEW Introduction to Adobe Lightroom

In this two-day hands-on workshop, you will learn how to get the most out of your RAW photos in Adobe Lightroom. On the first day, we'll explore all of the image editing functions such as colour and tonality adjustments,  the spot and local area adjustment brushes, black-and-white conversions, lens distortion corrections, noise correction, and special effects, to name but a few. On the second day we will look at some of the options involved in organizing your photos, how to create web galleries and slideshows, printing, exporting and formatting your images so you get the results you expect. If you are interested in becoming proficient with editing photos in Lightroom, this is the course for you! Requirements are basic computer skills, basic photography concepts & terminology knowledge, a DSLR capable of shooting RAW.

NEW Lighting Workshop

In this two-day hands-on workshop, you will learn how to work with and control natural light, on camera flash and studio lighting to add shape, highlight texture and add mood and drama to your photographs. Some of the concepts covered will include high key vs low key lighting, rembrandt, butterfly, loop and split lighting, kicker and hair lights, and much more. Equipment will range from professional studio grade gear to simple and inexpensive DIY. In-class exercises will include portraiture, product and food photography. Requirements are a basic  basic photography concepts & terminology and a DSLR camera. Students do not need to own their own lighting equipment to benefit from this workshop!
