Learn how to make your own customized Artist Books, Journals, Notebooks and Albums. By adapting historic models from the Asian, Egyptian and European traditions you will learn to make your own books suited for your artistic projects, weather you are a photographer, printmaker, textile artist or writer you can adapt these projects to exactly fit your projects. The letterpress equipment in the Dawson Printshop will be used to print unique title pages or decorative covers for the final project which will be a hard cover book suitable as a diary or studio journal. Tuition includes paper and binding materials for four in-class projects, (notebook,concertina binding, Coptic binding and hardcover journal). Bring scissors,ruler, and pencil to the first class. Students provide special papers, if desired. Class limit is 12.

Introduction to Letterpress Printing
Unlike many obsolete technologies, letterpress hasn’t vanished. Letterpress has been seized upon by artists, and has been transformed into a 21st Century art-making medium. There’s a letterpress resurrection going on, and you can be part of it. In this introductory course, you will learn type setting by hand, locking up, Vandercook press basics, and ink modification; you will also learn about paper as a receptacle for printing. Class Limit is 15.
