I am a creative listener and an audio artist living in the margins of a visual society. My fascination with recorded sound, environmental sound and original music began more than 40 years ago, and I have taught studio courses on sound in the Media Art Department at NSCAD, particularly "Basic Sound", since 1986. I am also a practicing artist/producer using recorded sound as the medium for my work, connecting the overlapping disciplines of art, soundtrack and music production. Currently I am exploring the aesthetic possibilities of recorded language sounds, and I look forward to creating immersive, site-specific environments using surround sound in future work. I am dedicated to the effective use and creative potential of sound either as an uniquely nonvisual art form or in combination with any form of visual art, and I am interested in teaching creative courses relating to all applications of sound.
