Emma Joy Lovell is a designer, currently based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In 2012, she founded a web, print and graphic design studio in Northern Ontario called Charm Media that focuses on empowering small business owners and entrepreneurs with new digital media skills. In 2014, Emma completed her Master of Design degree at NSCAD. Her thesis explored how design can engage with community development and resulted in the design and production of a collaborative community storytelling game called StoryPlace. In her practice, Emma is excited most by design that defies boundaries and brings disciplines, platforms and people closer together. She is particularly interested in the intersection of design, culture, communication and community and believes deeply in socially-conscious design that changes the way people think, feel, act and connect with one another.
