Maria Doering is a German artist and professional printmaker. Born in East Germany, she moved to the USA with her family in 2000, then to Montreal in 2006 and to Dartmouth in 2012. She has completed a BFA at Hartford Art School in Connecticut and an MFA at Concordia University in Montreal. Her work has been displayed in Canadian cities including Calgary, Montreal and Halifax as well as internationally in the U.S., the U.K., Denmark and Italy. Maria has taught classes and workshops throughout Quebec, and has taught at NSCAD since 2012.
Maria’s work explores the body and its many layers both physically and philosophically. She investigates the dynamic between the interior of the body and its external appearance, and the struggle of the mind to make sense of and control this duality, with consideration of the constant feedback provided by the body itself.
