Teto Elsiddique

I explore the social phenomena of group relations by reinterpreting the underlying philosophies of traditional forms of representation and aesthetic conventions. I do this through a painting practice that uses unconventional materials and process which combines sculpture, printmaking and installation.  Currently, I translate shapes and symbols found on animal print fabrics often associated with the identities of multiple, loosely related cultural groups. By interacting in the same painting/space the shapes, symbols and subjectivity identifiers undergo formal and symbolic transgressions through a constant process of reinterpretation and adaptation.
