Jessica Hein is interested
in using non-linear narratives to engage with memory, place, culture, and the
body. She works within a varied art practice of drawing, industrial processes,
and installation. Jessica is currently
employed at NSCAD University and will soon begin working on her MFA at MassArt in Boston. She has
received recognition for her work from the Starfish Art Award and the HRM
Contemporary Art competition.
Her most recent body of work
began with questions about the complexity of our relationships with our
environment. This series of drawings explores the landscapes of both the planet
and our bodies through the lens of scientific and financial data. Working with
graphite, acrylic and die cut tools, and with detailed line drawings and a
laser cutter, Jessica delved into tenuous and fragile boundaries, invaded
arteries and tributaries, and a deeply scarred landscape.
