All courses above the 1000 level require completion of course prerequisites. In order to take LAS (Liberal Arts) courses at the 2000 level or higher, students must complete the Writing Requirement. Students are responsible for ensuring they have met all necessary prerequisites. Upon submission of Registration form (and ADD/DROP forms once classes have begun), students should ensure that they have met any prerequisites required. Students DROPPING courses should be sure to check that those courses are not required as pre or co-requisites for other term courses. It is the student’s responsibility to check and ensure that all prerequisites are being met.
Please note: When making course registration changes for Fall/Winter, please consider the impact of course changes on prerequisites. Winter selections will be approved and processed based on prerequisites obtained as well as on confirmed Fall registrations. Subsequent changes in Fall registrations may affect prerequisites, so students are expected to drop any winter courses for which they will be missing prerequisites. Failure to do so may result in removal from a class after the semester has begun.
For courses that require “Proposals”, students can obtain the proposal forms from the Division Offices (Fine Art, Media Arts, Craft, Design), and should return the proposal to the course instructor. Please keep a copy to submit with your course registration as this form should have the instructor or Chair’s authorizing signature.Independent Studio Classes
ARTS 3200/ 3500-4700
Students must present a Studio Course Consent Form signed by the Chair of Fine Arts or the Chair of Media Arts in order to register for these courses. Students should make appointments with the Chairs of either Fine Arts or Media Arts as soon as the semester timetables are available to obtain required signatures. Students should take their credit summary and current course registration to the appointment. Registration for these courses will not be permitted without a signed Studio Course Consent Form. Proposals for these courses are due at the first meeting of the course.

CERM/ JWLY/ TEXL 4606-4609:
Students must obtain the signature of the Designated Faculty Member for the area (See the semeter's Timetable for a listing of those individuals).
** Transfer students are not permitted to register for the above courses during their first semester at NSCAD.
**PLEASE CHECK the timetables for other courses that require signature and/or proposals**
If a signature is required, a course selection will NOT be processed until the signature is submitted. (Dropping courses NEVER requires a signature, only Additions, based on the criteria below). Below is a summary of when entry to a course requires a signature (on the Registration form, or ADD/DROP form once classes have begun). If students have submitted their registration requests online via the Interactive Timetable, they MUST also provide a signed registration form for the courses requiring signatures.
- When a course requires a signature as a prerequisite (Check Course Prerequisites)
- When an instructor wishes to “waive” a prerequisite for a course that otherwise the student would not be eligible for (such a signature does not guarantee entry if space is unavailable)
**Please Check the timetables for other courses that require signature and/or proposals**
If students have submitted their registration requests online via the Interactive Timetable, they MUST also provide a signed registration form for the courses requiring signatures. Registration for such courses will be held back until signatures are provided, and so students should be sure to provide the required signature within credit priority period in order to retain priority.
