Yes! Extended Studies is pleased to offer an ever-expanding program of courses for young artists and designers aged from 5 to 18 years each semester. We also run Spring Break and Summer Camps so that they can spend some quality time having fun, but expanding their art and design experience and stretching their talents.

The seniors discount is applied automatically to all web payments when the age bracket 65+ is selected during registration.

Courses and camps are held at NSCAD University’s Granville and Port campuses, located at 5163 Duke Street or 1107 Marginal Road. The “Additional Information” tab for each course will tell you at which location and in which room the class is held.

Not all Extended Studies courses require that students purchase supplies, but most do. You are welcome to use what you have, but some items are course specific. A list of required and recommended items will be sent out a week before classes begin, however you can reach out to us at any time at make@nscad.ca to inquire about specifics.

When purchasing supplies, the NSCAD Art Supply Store is a great place to start. Located in the lower level of Granville Mall at 1874 Hollis Street, the store is expected to be open Monday through Fridays, 10am to 5om and Saturday noon to 5pm. Due to COVID-19, their hours may vary, and the store recommends reaching out ahead by phone to 902-494-8176 or store@nscad.ca

Extended Studies courses and certificate programs do not ladder into the university’s credit programs, but they are a terrific way to experience art education firsthand. The work you produce can be used as part of your portfolio for entrance to NSCAD. All our courses are also a great way to try a new media without the set up costs and invaluable to help meet new friends.

NSCAD University’s Teen Arts Studio Bursary Program was created in 1983 through the endowed gift of Alexander J. MacDonald. The Bursary Program is designed to engage highly motivated young artists in grades 9-12, from low-income environments, who are keen to explore the visual arts but unlikely to enroll due to registration and transportation costs.

Who is eligible?

Students in grade 9-12 experiencing financial challenges or living in low-income environments may apply directly through their school guidance office for the Teen Arts Bursary. Only students experiencing financial need are eligible for this bursary.

How do I apply?

If you are a student interested in applying for the Teen Arts Bursary, visit the guidance office in your school to find out the specifics of their application process. Completed applications can be returned to the School of Extended Studies.

School representatives may contact: Catherine Allen, Extended Studies Manager by email: callen@nscad.ca, or by phone at: 902.494.8224

We welcome everyone who wants to learn more about art and design and will make adaptations where possible. The Port Campus is mobility friendly, and support personnel and therapy dogs are welcomed. We do ask that you make us aware of any needs before you attend class so that we can ensure we have the all that you need to enjoy your class.

Specific courses allow access to related facilities under the direction of the course facilitator and as outlined in the course description.
