People have been fascinated with botanical drawings for thousands of years, from Roman and Greek murals, to Georgia OKeefes giant flowers, to the intimate expressive drawings of Ryoko Aoki. This introductory course will explore the history of botanical observational drawing through hands-on practice. Classes will take place in the studio and in the natural world; at least two classes will be held at the Halifax Public Gardens. Various techniques and methods will be explored in conjunction with dry and wet mediums. The goal of this course is to develop strong observational drawing skills and build an understanding of organic forms as well as build confidence in drawing within natural settings.
