Fundamentals of portraiture drawing are introduced in this course. Working from old photographs, self-portraits using a mirror, and a live model, students will consider proportion, value, form, and observational skills to help achieve a likeness in portraits. One session is devoted to drawing pop artists (e.g. Warhol-esque, etc.). Slide discussions and group critiques compliment studio work. Although the course will help to build a greater sensibility of drawing materials, it is recommended that students have some knowledge of drawing using dry, black media. Bring pencils (B range), one stick of black conte, a white eraser, newsprint pad (approx. 18×24), and two bulldog clips to the first class. Class limit is 18.
