Description

This survey class will explore the history of illustration from Medieval illuminated manuscripts to todays craze for food, medical and manga illustration. The social and cultural contexts for illustration will be examined, along with the impact of evolving technologies and art movements, the role of printmaking within illustration, the position of illustration in the artistic hierarchy, and what illustration tells us about the social and political moments it records.
