Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Jack Ross is an artist and educator. A graduate of NSCAD University (BFA 2012); Jack has instructed courses in painting with NSCAD’s School of Extended Studies and has worked as a curator and coordinator. He has shown work at the Anna Leonowens Gallery, the Seeds Gallery, the Craig Gallery, at Dine by Design East, and with Swoon Fine Art and Antiques.
Jack’s work stems from a keen interest the material qualities of paint as well as paintings history and trajectory into contemporary art. Observational study is often a key component in his practice and he frequently uses close friends as live models. His work is concerned with social spaces, interpersonal relationships, the significance of source material, and the relevancy of painted images in today’s technologically dependent society.
