Twice a year, in October and February, NSCAD hosts an open house called Portfolio Day. This is an opportunity for you to get to know us here at NSCAD, and for us to get to know you! We plan a series of activities that:

  • Provides you with tips and feedback to strengthen your application.
  • Introduces you to current students, faculty and staff.
  • Familiarizes you with our campuses and facilities.
  • Provides more information about student life at NSCAD.

Our next Portfolio Day will be in October 2024.

What’s a portfolio?

A portfolio is a collection of artwork that you have made that exemplifies your interests, commitment, and skills in art and design. Whether you paint, draw, sew, sculpt, animate, film, weave, print, or just plain make and create — it all belongs in your portfolio as a reflection of your artistic self. The portfolio that you submit when applying to NSCAD University demonstrates to the admissions committee your readiness to be a student here — we want to get to know you through your skills and your artwork!

Read more about building your portfolio.

What happens at portfolio day?

On Portfolio Day here at NSCAD, you’ll have the opportunity to receive helpful and encouraging feedback on your portfolio as you prepare to apply to study art and design. Whether you are applying for Fall 2023 and have a robust collection of artworks, or are still a few years away and are just starting to build up a portfolio, our feedback on Portfolio Day can give you a gentle push in the right direction.

The morning block will be a series of presentations from faculty and alumni to help you get to know NSCAD, as well as gain some tips and tricks for applying to art school and strengthening your portfolio.

After we offer a break for a light lunch, the afternoon block is dedicated to Portfolio Reviews. You’ll be assigned a reviewer and a time to meet them! In the meantime, we’ll be offering campus tours of all three of NSCAD’s campuses for you to explore our vast art-making spaces.

Great, I want to register now!
