Background

Erica Mendritzki is an assistant professor of fine art at NSCAD University. She holds a BFA from Concordia University, Montreal, QC and an MFA from University of Guelph, Guelph, ON.

CURRENT RESEARCH AND/OR CREATIVE PRACTICE

Website: ericamendritzki.com

My current studio practice and research centres on themes of improvisation, grief and absurdity, and engaging with art history through critical misinterpretation. My studio work is grounded in painting and drawing, and extends at times into performance, sculpture, photography and writing. I am currently collaborating with researchers in other fields (ecology, health, social sciences, land-based history, sustainability studies) to investigate vocabularies and rituals for dealing with climate grief and eco-anxiety.

SIGNIFICANT PUBLICATIONS/EXHIBITIONS

Recent solo exhibitions include Cold Pastoral at the Ionian Centre for Arts and Culture in Kefalonia (Greece) and Let me talk to you man to man, which was exhibited at the Anna Leonowens Gallery at NSCAD and at G Gallery in Toronto.
