Art Bar +Projects
The Art Bar +Projects space is independently operated by the Alumni Association of NSCAD. It was created as a space to showcase performance and installation art, relational aesthetics and art happenings. The Alumni Association aims to create an inviting atmosphere that will promote the discussion and celebration of art and design in Halifax. Art Bar +Projects is community focused with a global view; it is a space for students, faculty, alumni and our community. Designed and produced by Karen Konzuk, (BFA 97), this stainless steel band incorporates the official NSCAD colour with a side incision of purple powder-coated finish. Inside the band is an engraved Latin inscription of NSCAD’s informal school motto nolo facere insipida, after John Baldessari’s lithograph I Will Not Make Any More Boring Art.

Custom-designed frames from Tempo Framing are available to all alumni. Present your degree alongside the NSCAD colours in a slick matte-black metal frame with branded mat board cut especially for our square degrees. These frames are made in Canada and come pre-assembled.

Proceeds from sales support the Audrey Dear Hesson Scholarship, an undergraduate entrance scholarship for new and transfer students, who self-identify as Black/African Canadian.
In 1951, Audrey Dear Hesson was the first black student to graduate from the Nova Scotia College of Art (now NSCAD University), earning the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia’s medal for highest standing. In recent years, Audrey has been recognized for her role in breaking barriers for black artists. Her work was featured in several exhibitions, including the landmark In This Place: Black Art in Nova Scotia at the Anna Leonowens Gallery in 1998 and Discovery: African Nova Scotian Art Pioneers, at Dartmouth Heritage Museum in 2013. In 2017, she was named a Life Fellow of NSCAD University.
