NSCAD is pleased to announce the appointments of Professor Kim Morgan as interim Vice-President (Academic and Research) and Provost, and Professor Adrian Fish as interim Academic Dean, effective January 1, 2027.
The appointments coincide with NSCAD President-designate Kyla Mallett’s transition from Vice-President (Academic and Research) and Provost to President on January 1.
Kim, who has served as interim Academic Dean since June 2026, will move into the interim Provost role. Adrian, an Associate Professor in the Division of Media Arts and Chair of NSCAD’s Academic Senate, will take on the role of interim Academic Dean. Together, they will provide continuity in academic leadership while NSCAD undertakes a search for its next permanent Provost.
“Kim and Adrian bring a wealth of experience, a deep understanding of NSCAD and a strong commitment to our academic community,” says Kyla. “Having worked closely with both of them, I know they will bring thoughtful, collaborative leadership to these roles. Their experience and perspectives will be invaluable as we continue to advance our academic priorities and navigate this next chapter for the university.”
Kim brings extensive experience as an artist, educator and academic leader to the interim Provost role. A Professor in NSCAD’s Division of Fine Arts since 2008, she previously served as Associate Academic Dean in 2024 before being appointed Interim Academic Dean in June 2026.
Throughout her time at NSCAD, Kim has contributed to academic planning, curriculum development and interdisciplinary collaboration. Her leadership experience and longstanding commitment to the university will support NSCAD’s academic priorities during this period of transition.
Kim’s artistic practice explores materiality and the body through interdisciplinary approaches. She has collaborated with researchers and institutions to bring these ideas into public spaces, including a partnership with Dalhousie Art Gallery to create public art installations in the Halifax community.
Taking on this role is an opportunity to build on the work we’ve been doing together and to think creatively about what comes next for NSCAD,” says Kim. “I value the perspectives of people across the university and look forward to continuing these conversations as we explore new possibilities and work together to shape our academic future.”
Adrian’s broad perspective of academic life at NSCAD reflects his experience as a faculty member, Division Chair, and Chair of the university’s Academic Senate, a position he has held since 2022.
A Toronto-born photo-based artist and educator, Adrian holds a Master of Fine Arts from York University and has accreditation from OCAD University and Sheridan College. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including in Halifax, Toronto, Calgary, New York, Berlin, Copenhagen and Tokyo, and has been featured in publications including Canadian Art, VICE, and U.S. and Japanese editions of WIRED.
“I’ve had the privilege of seeing NSCAD University from different perspectives,” says Adrian. “I see stepping into this role as both an exciting personal challenge as well as an opportunity to contribute in new ways, and I look forward to working with colleagues across NSCAD University within this new context.”
NSCAD has also retained executive search firm KBRS to lead the recruitment process for its next permanent Vice-President (Academic and Research) and Provost. Additional information about the search process will be shared as it becomes available.
