Background

Rebecca Young is the director of library services at NSCAD University. She holds a BFA from NSCAD (1999), a Diploma in Library and Information Technology from NSCC (2002) and an MSc in Information Management and Preservation from the University of Glasgow (2007).

CURRENT RESEARCH AND/OR CREATIVE PRACTICE

My ongoing research interests are in the preservation of media-based art, and currently I am working towards a research project in Open Education Resources for visual art. For the last 10 years I have maintained a professional focus on developing NSCAD’s Archival and Special Collections.  Since beginning as a Librarian at NSCAD, I have prioritized the identification, appraisal and preservation of analogue media-based collections in the Library and have overseen the digitization of audio and video works and the development of NSCAD’s Open Research Archive and repository – https://nora.nscad.ca/  . I have also initiated and managed the description, digitization and preservation of archival collections at NSCAD, including the NSCAD Feminist Collective / Women’s File Fonds, and the creation of the NSCAD Digital Theses collection.
